Rod Ellis is Professor in the Department of Applied Language Studies and Linguistics at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. He has worked in Zambia, the UK, Japan, and the US for extended periods. He has published a number of books on second language acquisition and teacher education.He has also published EFL/ESL textbooks. Gary Barkhuizen is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Applied Language Studies and Linguistics at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. He has taught English and has been involved in language teacher education in South Africa, the USA, and NewZealand.

Very comprehensive, some parts are very interesting whereas others are hard to really understand. A very "academical" book - consequently a bit "dry". But for my personal research a big part of the content will become very useful.
This book provided strong background knowledge about learner language. I bought it after getting it from the library and realizing it was an essential resource to have for this topic (I wanted to annotate it too much to merely use a library copy).

This book is a required text for a course I am doing. It is not easy to read but necessary and not a book I would usually buy.
